About Us
Gordon studied Horticulture at college and after
working in the industry started building our
nursery eighteen years ago to grow mainly
cucumbers and a small area down to seasonal
bedding plants. Due to high fuel costs, changing
economic climate and a general awareness of
environmental issues we decided to diversify.

Our aims
To reduce our use of fuel to grow crops and
reduce food miles while still having a viable
business giving employment to local people. To
increase the plant side of the nursery and
reduce cucumber production further by growing
different crops.
Our crops
We looked at different crops and decided to
start with strawberries under glass this means
the fruit is ready before outdoor crops, which
is not unusual in itself as many growers supply
supermarkets from glasshouses. We wanted to
supply them fresh to the customer straight from
the plant and therefore we opened for pick your
own.
How we grow our strawberries
The strawberries are grown at chest height, so
customers do not have to bend and small children
can walk underneath. The plants are all fed and
watered via trickles one per plant and
controlled by a computer so are not dependant on
the weather. Ensuring the produce is of a very
high quality and being freshly picked is at its
best for flavour.
PYO
Our range of soft fruit for PYO has increased
over the past five years and is continuing to
grow, yet the same principle applies quality
fruit picked fresh by the customer, generally
earlier than outdoor fruit.
Farm Shop
Not everyone wants to pick their own fruit, so
we started a small stall on the nursery where
customers could buy ready picked fruit. This has
grown into a farm shop supplying our own and
other local produce. Combined with this shop we
are opening new for 2009 a café, staffed by 2
local chefs producing mouth watering dishes
using our produce and other local sourced
ingredients.
We love meeting our customers face to face and
we now have an ever growing customer base of
people seeking fresh local produce.
